Student Highlights
As an undergraduate program, students are at the heart of what we do, and we continue to be inspired by the ways our students engage with the world within and beyond the classroom.
For the second year in a row, a GHS undergraduate has been awarded the prestigious Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service! This two-year scholarship program provides rising third year students financial aid and a stipend for summer work-travel experiences. Third year GHS student Jason Chen (pictured right) aims to improve healthequity by studying a K-12 health literacy curriculum so people learn how to best care for themselves and others. Congrats to Jason!
Third year GHS student Shinyi Ding published an original research paper, “Trust in the Predictable: Induction of Labor in Normative Obstetrics Practice in the United States, 1903-1980,” in Synthesis, Harvard University’s undergraduate research journal. This research was conducted in summer 2023 with a summer Undergraduate Research Grant, supervised by Dr. Sarah Rodriguez.
Finally, GHS students and alumni participated in the Feinberg School of Medicine’s Harvey Institute for Global Health’s annual Global Health Day on December 6th. Alum Ramzy Issa presented two posters he co-authored, one on amputation care in Middle Eastern conflict zones, and another on how US medical students understood a workshop on Gaza’s health care infrastructure during war. GHS students Erika Ruiz-Yamamoto, Allison Lee, Joseph Biju, Josie Chou, and Talia Ginsberg participated in the Northwestern Global Health Case Competition as part of an interdisciplinary team. The winning team, of which Erika Ruiz-Yamamoto is a member, will compete in Emory’s annual Global Health Case Competition in 2025.
