Student Spotlight

This first half of 2025, there are several GHS students whose accomplishments are worth celebrating! 

Meant to support students planning a career in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering, the Barry Goldwater Scholarship was awarded to 441 students from among the 1350 applicants at 445 academic institutions across the nation. One of the two awardees from Northwestern this year was GHS minor Adithi Adusumilli, who plans to pursue an MD/PhD, aiming to explore how immune mechanisms affect neurodegenerative disease progression.

Meanwhile, Rama Darayyad (GHS ’25) received a Northwestern Alumnae Fellowship to support her MPH training with the Accelerated Public Health Program (APHP) at Feinberg, which admitted 13 GHS students this year.  

Congratulations also go to GHS student Jovana Lakic received an honorable mention for the 2025 Grace Douglas Johnson Award for the best senior honors thesis in history, advised by Dr. Sarah Rodriguez.

This year, six GHS students were elected to join Phi Beta Kappa, the USA’s oldest academic honor society: Seela Hinrichs, Sarah Huang, Neha Navrange, Diego Portillo (pictured right), Caitlin Smith, and Kate Vidano. Dr. Sullivan was able to capture images of some of these impressive PBK seniors at Weinberg’s Convocation on June 14th.
